Living in Green Hills, What the Numbers Don't Tell You
A family history on a street that used to be gravel, and an honest look at why Green Hills is one of the most convenient, walkable places to live in Nashville.

When I was 13 years old my father moved our family into the house in Green Hills where he grew up. When my dad lived in the house as a child, it was on a gravel road that he watched being paved, and he would take water to the men who worked on the road. My dad told us about all the farms, cows, and even the blacksmith who lived nearby that he would sometimes visit. Back then it was considered country, and Nashville's city limits were just beyond what is today's Hillsboro Village.
When we moved there, I did not really understand the benefits of living in a neighborhood like Green Hills. It was just a place that I had been to all my life when visiting my grandmother.
Over time this changed, and I began to see and enjoy many wonderful things about Green Hills that I wanted to share with homebuyers who are considering where they might want to buy a home, raise a family, and simply live and access all that Green Hills has to offer.
The shopping
First, Green Hills has the best shopping, in my opinion, of any neighborhood in Middle Tennessee or beyond. The Mall at Green Hills attracts the most iconic brands in the world including Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, Burberry, Gucci, Nordstrom, and many others. Just down the road from the mall is the Hill Center, which has dozens more premier retailers and restaurants such as Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Starbucks, Lululemon, Vineyard Vines, Oak Hall, and Shake Shack.
Everyday life
Next, Green Hills has a great variety of wonderful restaurants, neighborhood pubs, coffee shops, and grocery stores, which make living in the area an easy thing to do. The local YMCA is one of the most popular spots from 6:00 a.m. on, and there are several other workout facilities, yoga and pilates studios to keep everyone in shape and connected.
Green Hills is also home to the Bluebird Cafe, where Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift were discovered, and the Regal Cinema where entertainment hits the big screen.
Convenience
Green Hills is one of the most convenient areas of Nashville. It is only a 10 to 15 minute drive to places like Percy Warner and Edwin Warner Parks and Cheekwood Estate and Gardens, and in only 20 minutes you can be in downtown Nashville to the north or Brentwood to the south. All the best hospitals, including Ascension Saint Thomas, Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt Children's, and HCA's Centennial, are only 15 to 20 minutes' drive from Green Hills.

Having lived in the neighborhood most of my life I am thankful to have had the opportunity to do so. When it comes to convenience, with access to high quality homes, shopping, parks, entertainment, sidewalks, healthcare, and schools, it is difficult to beat what Green Hills has to offer.
